Working Groups
Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU) Working Group
The AFOLU Working Group was created in 2011 to build the capacity of stakeholders from across governments, civil society, private sector and academia to set goals and implement actions that support mitigation and adaptation in the agriculture, forestry and other land use sectors aligned with greenhouse gas emission reduction goals and measures outlined in a country’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Priority Areas
How We Work
We focus on promoting and facilitating knowledge sharing and the adoption of tools and solutions for climate resilient, low emission development across the agriculture, forestry and other land use sectors. The AFOLU working group promotes cross-sectoral collaboration and empowers AFOLU practitioners to raise ambition towards NDC goals.
Our activities include organizing regional workshops and webinars, providing technical assistance, developing case studies and guidance documents, coordinating peer learning, and establishing and facilitating communities of practitioners interested in specific implementation topics. Currently, implementation is focused within two Communities of Practice , the Livestock and Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) Communities of Practice, led by the Africa LEDS Partnership.
Communities of Practice
Communities of Practice are spaces for members interested in a specific topic to regularly learn from peers, exchange knowledge, co-design solutions, receive technical assistance, connect with others, and pilot ideas. Communities of Practice are demand driven and evolve dynamically to meet their members’ needs.
Soil Organic Carbon
Coordinated by our Africa LEDS Partnership and focuses on:
Closing the gap between policy and regulation on the national level and best practices on the farm level to support evidence-based implementation and raise ambitions for Soil Organic Carbon in NDCs as well as their long-term climate mitigation strategies.
Livestock
Coordinated by our Africa LEDS Partnership and focuses on:
Building capacity among decision makers, research institutions, and practitioners to design and implement NDCs and long-term low emissions, climate-resilient development pathways in the livestock sector across Africa.
