Green Bond Readiness Roadmap for Sovereign & Subnational Governments
The LEDS GP Finance Working Group currently hosts the secretariat for the Global Green Bond Partnership (GGBP) which brings together pioneering organizations and institutions working on green bonds to collaborate on efforts that will enable and scale green bond issuance by public and private partners in both developed and emerging markets worldwide.
The green bond concept is simple. Green bonds, with the backing of credible, third-party standards, are used to finance infrastructure and climate-related projects needed to adapt and respond to a climate-impacted world. Since the first issuance of a green bond in 2007 by the European Investment Bank, green bonds have provided an important source of financing for green projects around the world.
This Green Bond Roadmap is a resource for government representatives and others interested in better understanding green bonds. It provides users with a basic outline of green bonds and their role in mobilizing capital for climate change action. It is intended to help government officials quickly get oriented to the world of green bonds and provides curated tools and information from organizations around the world that play an active role in the green bonds market.
