This webinar forms part of the UN Foundation’s new country-focused webinar series that will delve into the state of energy access across different parts of the world, starting with countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

The speakers in this session will present a short overview of the current status of the market for mini-grids in Nigeria, as well as recent developments concerning the work on clean rural mini-grids that has been done by NESP, co-funded by the European Union and the German Government and jointly implemented by GIZ, the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and five partner states, in collaboration with selected local private partners. Practitioner Network members Green Village Energy Projects (GVE) and GoSolar Africa (SME Funds), who are active in the development of mini-grids in Nigeria, will also present their projects and approaches to provide field-based best practices.

Speakers

  • Jem Porcaro, Senior Director for Energy Access, United Nations Foundation, will introduce the webinar in the context of the UN Foundation’s broader support to the Sustainable Energy for All Energy Access Practitioner Network and Clean Energy Mini Grids High Impact Opportunity (HIO).
  • Jannik Moeller, Head of Rural Electrification and Sustainable Energy Access, Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP) will provide an overview of the mini-grid market in Nigeria and NESP’s support program.
  • Femi Oye, Chief Architect, GoSolar Africa, will provide a case study of the mini-grid projects in Sokoto led by GoSolar Africa (SME Funds).
  • Ifeanyi Orajaka, Founder/ CEO, GVE Projects Limited Nigeria will provide a case study of the mini-grid projects in Plateau by Green Village Energy Projects (GVE).

The presentations will be followed by an interactive question and answer session with the audience.
