Energy webinar: Scaling up energy access in sub-Saharan Africa

As part of its ‘Movers and Shakers’ Showcase, the Clean Energy Solutions Center, in partnership with the United Nations Foundation’s Energy Access Practitioner Network, is hosting a webinar featuring the work of some of the most influential development partners contributing to the scale up of energy access in sub-Saharan Africa.
This webinar will serve to kick off the UN Foundation’s new country-focused webinar series that will delve into the state of energy access across different parts of the world, starting with countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The speakers in this session will showcase their respective organizations’ experiences in supporting the region’s off-grid energy sectors, discussing the crucial role of enterprises and the ecosystem around them.
- Jem Porcaro, Senior Director, Energy Access, United Nations Foundation, will introduce the webinar series and provide context for the subsequent discussions.
- Daniel Schroth, Sustainable Energy for All – Africa Hub Coordinator, African Development Bank (AfDB), will discuss AfDB’s role in scaling energy access in the region as the Sustainable Energy for All regional hub.
- Gareth Martin, Sustainable Energy Team Leader, UK Department for International Development (DFID), will share progress to date of the UK’s Energy Africa campaign to help Africa to achieve universal energy access by 2030.
- Katrina Pielli, Senior Energy Advisor, United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will showcase Power Africa‘s impact and expected expansion in the region, in particular focusing on the Beyond the Grid initiative.
