In this webinar, from our Transport Working Group, representatives from Mauritius will share their experience of mitigating vehicular emissions from the transport sector by introducing cleaner fuels. Under the Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI), Mauritius implemented measures to bring down diesel with a sulphur content of 5000 ppm to less than 50 ppm, and introduced unleaded petrol in September 2002. Mauritius is also presently implementing the second phase of the Global Fuel Economy Initiative with the main objective of doubling the fuel efficiency and thereby halving the CO2 emissions.
Speakers:
Mr. Deepnarain Prithipaul works as the Divisional Environment Officer at the Ministry of Environment, Sustainable Development, and Disaster and Beach Management in Mauritius, where he and his team manage the implementation of the GFEI project.
Mr. Amarsingh Allock works as the Environment Officer for the Environmental Law & Prosecution Division in Mauritius. He was part of the team that worked on the Cleaner Fuel and Vehicles Project with the support of the UNEP. Mr. Allock has an M.Sc degree in Environmental Engineering.
