Webinar on practical applications of development finance statistics

The goal of this webinar is to explain how the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)’s statistical system functions, specifically in development finance statistics related to climate. The webinar will cover how data is collected and reported, the type of information available and the progress achieved in improving the quality and coverage of the data.  Additionally, practical applications of the data will be presented, including the analysis of climate-related development finance useful to evaluate alignment with national priorities.

The Development Assistance Committee (DAC) is an international forum that brings together the largest donors of development finance and tracks external finance for development. Among other things, it tracks donors’ commitments to activities of the Rio Conventions (on climate change, biodiversity and desertification), through the Creditor Reporting System (CRS) and the “Rio markers” system. Donors need to indicate for each development activity that will be accounted as Official Development Assistance, through the OECD, if this activity has the environment as an principal objective or not.

Within DAC is the Working Party on Financial Statistics (WP-STAT), which provides public and reliable data on official development finance, and the Network on Environment and Development Co-operation (ENVIRONET), which promotes and facilitates integration of environmental and climate issues in development cooperation. Both collaborate to improve the understanding and access to the data.

About the speakers

Mariana Mirabile

Mariana Mirabile’s work focuses in particular on the quality verification and analysis of statistics on flows of financing for climate-related development. Prior to her work with the OECD, she worked as a policy analyst at the World Food Programme (WFP) at the scholar-feeding unit. She holds a Masters Degree in Statistics and a Licentiate in Finance.

Gisela Campillo

Gisela Campillo’s work focuses on the use of development finance statistics related to climate change to strengthen the dialogue between countries and promote the transparency of financial flows. Prior to joining the OECD she served as climate change specialist at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington and as a specialist on sustainable development for the World Bank in Mexico.
